Mantra for the New Year - Saha Naavavatu

Submitted by Marion (Mugs) McConnell

Welcome to 2012! This new year is a critical year of change according to the Mayan Calendar and many others. Some view it as apocalyptic. Others say it is a year filled with hope and spiritual transformation. I choose this view and see the year ahead as opportunity for us to create amazing change in our world.

Let us prepare for the new beginnings awaiting us. And what better way than chanting Saha naavavatu, a Peace Mantra from the Taittariya Upanishad. This beautiful mantra is an "Opening Mantra", for good energy in new beginnings. The words are below, and you can listen to it on youtube

Saha naavavatu, saha nau bhunaktu
Saha veeryam karavaavahai
Tejasvinaa vadheetamastu
Maa vidvishaavahai
Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi

May the Lord Protect us, may the Lord help us to enjoy.
May we work together, may our intelligence be purified.
May we never hate each other. Om peace, peace, peace.

Why not repeat it every day? Every day is a new beginning!
