I recently received an email from Bob Silverman in
Florida. He just got over a wicked bout with the latest plague
that has hit locker rooms and Yoga studios called Mersa (MRSA)!
The initials are an acronym for Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus
Aureus. It is a staph infection that does not respond to regular
antibiotics.
The worst part is Bob thinks he caught MRSA from his
Yoga mat! Since he only used his yoga mat at home, he did not
bother to clean it REGULARLY, so he figures he probably caught it from
himself!
Bob’s immune system had previously been depleted from an
extended case of Giardia, which made him very susceptible to
MRSA. He said “My mistake cost me a lot of pain, down time, and 2
DIFFERENT COURSES of antibiotics, something I dread because of the
effect on my immune system. By the time I decided to see my
Doctor, this flesh eating bacteria had eaten a quarter sized crater on
my moon and raised a bump the size of a baseball.”
Apparently catching MRSA led Bob to find out that 60-70%
of all people carry it around in their nose! (Gee, I wonder if using
the neti pot would help reduce that!). You can find out more
about it MRSA www.ccohs.ca
So, lets all be diligent about cleaning our yoga
mats! Usually your mat comes with instructions how to clean
it. Bob sells a mat spray kit on www.TheRoadToWellness.com
with a 15% off sale price of $16.11 US plus shipping and it is enough
to last a year. All you have to do is spray the mats, floors and
other surfaces and let them air dry. I see there are sprays
on www.halfmoonyogaprops.com
too. Check your local yoga stores first and support them!
