Mugs has been teaching yoga for 33 years and training teachers for 16 years. She presents workshops internationally. Mugs was first introduced to yoga in 1971. Her passion for this ancient practice led her to study under the late Swami Vishnu-devananda where she graduated from the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre as a Yoga Acharya in 1978. Later, in 1979 she became a live-in disciple of the late Dr. Hari Dickman, who was a direct disciple of Swami Sivananda and Paramahansa Yogananda. Her more recent teachers include the late Namadeva Acharya in Mantra Therapy, and Erich Schiffmann. Her passion is mudras and mantras combined with asana. Mugs live in Scotch Creek, BC Canada during the summer months, and Melaque, Jalisco Mexico during the winter. Marion (Mugs) McConnell (“Mugs” is how most people
know her) is the Canadian Representative for the International Yoga Teachers’
Association (IYTA) since 1981. She is a founding member of the South Okanagan
Yoga Academy (SOYA) and co-creator of SOYA’s Teacher Training Program (RYS200/500)
based on IYTA standards. She is a Registered Teacher with Yoga Alliance
(E-RYT500), and currently represents Canada on a Yoga Alliance Task Force
researching Yoga Teacher Training through Distance Education.
