yoga students Become a certified & registered Yoga Teacher! Find out for yourself why people love our SOYA Yoga Teacher Training program! We have been training Yoga Teachers at International standards for more than 15 years!

This program is designed so working people who have families and/or other commitments can become Teachers of Yoga, and not need leave home for an extended length of time. Teacher Training meetings are held on a weekend every 3 or 4 weeks. The meeting is full of instruction and practice including meditation, mantra, pranayama, philosophy, asana, anatomy, developing teaching skills, learning benefits, precautions and modifications.

Between each Teacher Training meeting students attend Yoga workshops or classes with approved Teachers in their area for an average of approximately 2-3 hours per week over the duration of the training. Written assignments are completed between meetings and reviewed in group discussion for clearer understanding. Each student is strongly encouraged to attend our annual SOYA Retreats each June to experience Yoga with world renowned Yoga Masters.

The SOYA RYT200® Hour Extended Program takes 8-12 months to complete. Entry dates vary at each location.

handstand SOYA RYT300® Upgrade Overview

The RYT300® Hour Upgrade is a portion of our RYT500® Hour Extended Program. It generally takes 12 months to complete. Entry dates vary at each location.

Course Curriculum:

This curriculum outline assumes that you have completed the equivalent to the SOYA RYT200® Hour material reviewed above. If you are weak in some areas, you may be asked to complete some additional studies so you are able to pass the exams.

  • The Hatha Yoga Pradipika
  • The Upanishads
  • Koshas
  • Mudras
  • Advanced Pranayama
  • Sanskrit Writing and Pronunciation
  • Karma and Reincarnation
  • Asanas, Benefits, Cautions and Basic Modifications
  • Anatomy, Physiology and Asana
  • Creating Intermediate Lesson Plans
  • Specialized Yoga Project

To deepen your understanding of yoga and its practical applications, you will complete a Specialized Yoga Research Project in a preapproved topic of your choice, such as Yoga for Children, Pregnancy, Athletes, Arthritis, Scoliosis, Multiple Sclerosis, Seniors, etc. This project will be your final "thesis". Research includes understanding the Anatomy and Physiology related to your project, how to teach this specialized group, and organized study with approved Yoga Teachers who have the skills related to your project. Upon completion of the RYT300® Hour Extended Program you will receive an RYT500® Hour Certificate. With our SOYA 500 Hour Certification you are eligible to immediately apply to the International Yoga Teachers’ Association (IYTA) for Full Membership www.iyta.org.au You are also eligible to become a Registered Yoga Teacher® with Yoga Alliance® after 100 hours of teaching experience. Additional Requirements for 200, 300 and 500 Hour Programs.

These costs are additional and paid by you directly to the source of instruction.

  • A course in Basic Anatomy and Physiology. One affordable option can be found at www.ed2go.com for approximately $150. This will cover the systems of the body in twelve lessons over six weeks. Monthly entry dates. Or you can go to functionalsynergy.com and check out their program.
  • Current certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR.
  • Attendance at the SOYA Annual Yoga Retreat each June at Naramata BC
  • Hatha Yoga instruction with approved Yoga Teachers up to 2-3 hours per week for the duration of the training. Note: some locations include most of these hours in the training meetings, and is reflected in the costs. Please confirm this with each location.

Program Fees for SOYA RYT Extended Programs

Program fees include all Instruction at Teacher Training Meetings,Textbooks, Teacher Training Manual, Practical and Written Exams, SOYA Teacher Directory listing for one year, and taxes. Penticton/Okanagan Region:

300 Hour Upgrade: Next program runs March to November 2013. Meetings will be held one Sunday per month from March through August (9-4:30pm). September and October meetings will be held over a full weekend (9-4:30pm Sat & Sun). November 1st will conclude our program (8-5:30pm). Click on this poster for more information.
200hr Program: Next program runs July 13th/2013 and runs to Oct. 27/2013. You need to attend two weekends per month to complete the program. Check out this poster for more information.
