The SOYA Teacher Training is a Registered Program with Yoga Alliance. Your participation in the Teacher Training Program as SOYA FacultyIndependent SOYA Faculty for provides variety and exposure to various styles of yoga and various styles of teaching.  As well, it provides our SOYA Teachers in Training the opportunity to assist in your classes and receive constructive feedback from you to improve their skills. You are a valuable and indispensable part of the SOYA Teacher Training as you provide personal contact and instruction to students through classes and workshops, whether you teach Anatomy and Physiology, Hatha Yoga, Philosophy, or specialized workshops.  SOYA’s philosophy is to network with other teachers, creating a dynamic union that works for everyone!

There are several ways to become part of our SOYA Faculty Independent SOYA Faculty team.  After you have completed your SOYA Registration Form for the Teachers Directory listing, you can do one of the following options:

  1. If you are already registered with Yoga Alliance as RYT500® or ERYT500® or RYT200® just be sure you include your RYT# on the SOYA Registration Form.
  2. If you are not registered with Yoga Alliance and are eligible to (all SOYA grads are eligible), you can send in to Yoga Alliance your RYT application which can be found at the Yoga Alliance link to apply at ww.yogaalliance.org/Apply along with copies of your certificates and any applicable fees.  Once you receive notification from Yoga Alliance that you are registered, let us know and we will upgrade your listing on our SOYA website from Yoga Teacher to Independent SOYA Faculty.
  3. If you did not graduate from a Yoga School that is registered with Yoga Alliance, you may be able to register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT500® or RYT200® Equivalent.  To do this, send Yoga Alliance your Yoga resume, copies of Yoga certificates, and documentation to support your level of training (such as letters from teachers, etc) along with any applicable fees to Yoga Alliance.  Once you receive notification from Yoga Alliance that you are registered as an Equivalent, let us know and we will upgrade your listing on our SOYA website from Yoga Teacher to Independent SOYA Faculty.
  4. You don’t have to belong to Yoga Alliance to become an Independent SOYA Faculty member, but you do have to be approved by them.  If you do not want to be registered at all with Yoga Alliance, but are a certified Yoga Teacher, just send us copies of your Yoga resume and Yoga certificates and we will mail these into Yoga Alliance for approval.  Once we receive approval for you, we will let you know and upgrade your listing on our SOYA website from Yoga Teacher to Independent SOYA Faculty.

Special Note: Regarding “Regular Community Yoga Classes”.  Yoga Alliance Standards for Independent SOYA Faculty require that SOYA Teachers in Training who attend your “regular” Community Yoga classes (classes offered to the general public) must either observe or assist you, and receive feedback from you after class.  Observation can mean that they are simply watching, or taking notes during the class.  Assistance can be as little as demonstrating poses for you, or as much as teaching part or all of the class under your direct supervision. Feedback can be a simple verbal conversation pointing out key points from the class that you wish them to notice, or a written assessment.  This feedback time will allow them to ask questions without interrupting the class.
